पांच हजार किलोमीटर तक मार करने वाली जिस अग्नि मिसाइल की सफलता का जश्न देश मना रहा है, उसके पीछे हमारे कई पूर्व प्रधानमंत्रियों एवं मुख्यमंत्रियों की दूरदृष्टि है। मिसाइलमैन
डॉ. कलाम इसके बारे में बताते हैं। कलाम के अनुसार तीन पूर्व प्रधानमंत्रियों इंदिरा गांधी, पी.वी. नरसिंह राव, अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी तथा उड़ीसा के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री बीजू पटनायक वो दूरदर्शी नेता थे, जिन्होंने मिसाइल और परमाणु कार्यक्रम में राष्ट्र को तरजीह दी।
डॉ. कलाम ने यहां सिविल सर्विस डे के मौके पर बताया, ‘1983 में कैबिनेट ने 400 करोड़ की लागत से एकीकृत मिसाइल कार्यक्रम मंजूर किया। 1984 में इंदिरा गांधी डीआरडीएल हैदराबाद आईं। हम प्रजेंटेशन दे रहे थे। सामने विश्व का नक्शा था।’ इंदिरा जी ने प्रजेंटेशन रोक कहा, ‘कलाम, पूरब की इस जगह तक पहुंचने वाली मिसाइल कब बना सकते हो।’ जहां उनका हाथ था, वह सीमा से 5 हजार किमी. दूर थी। दूसरा वाकया 1993 का। बीजू पटनायक उड़ीसा के मुख्यमंत्री थे। हमें उड़ीसा के तट पर व्हीलर द्वीप सहित चार अन्य द्वीप परीक्षण के लिए चाहिए थे।
मैं बीजू जी से मिलने गया। उन्होंने कहा, ‘कलाम मैं पांचों द्वीप देने को तैयार हूं। लेकिन एक वादा करना होगा।’ मैंने पूछा, क्या? मेरा हाथ पकड़ कहा-मुझे चीन जाने का न्योता मिला है, लेकिन तभी जाऊंगा जब वादा करो कि ऐसी मिसाइल बनाओगे जो चीन तक अटैक करे।
मई 1996 में एक रात पीएम हाउस से फोन आया-नरसिंह राव मिलना चाहते हैं। मैं मिला। दो दिन बाद आम चुनावों के परिणाम आने वाले थे। राव ने कहा, ‘कलाम, उम्मीद के मुताबिक रिजल्ट नहीं आ रहे हैं। हम सत्ता से जा रहे हैं। खैर, परमाणु परीक्षण की तैयारी करो।’ मेरी टीम काम में जुट गई। दो दिन बाद परिणाम आए, वैसा ही जैसा राव ने कहा था। राव मुझे अटल जी के पास ले गए। उन्होंने अटल जी से कहा- परमाणु परीक्षण जरूरी है। इसे करना चाहिए। अटल जी ने मुझे सुना और परीक्षण के आदेश दे दिए।

Pride of kayastha family ---- Sudarshan Pattnaik
Sudarsan Pattnaik (born on 15 April 1977) born in Puri, nearly 60 km from Bhubaneswar the capital city of Orissa. He is the inventor of sand art in India and has learned this form of art by himself without any guidance but only by practice and creative ideas. He started sculpting images on sand since the age of seven. Till now he has designed hundreds of sand sculpture. In the recent years people have started focusing on this art form. Now Sudarshan has many students working under his arm. Among them is Manas Kumar Sahoo who was the semifinalist of India's Got Talent Season 2. He has won many national and international awards for his creative designs and has recorded his name in the World records for sculpting the tallest Santa Claus and most Santa Claus image built on sand. Sudarshan Pattnaik won the People's Choice Prize at the 1st Moscow International Sand Sculpture Championship held in Russia.[1]
He is the brand ambassdor of NALCO, India.[2]
Pattnaik created a 15 feet high Hindu God Ganesh to create awareness among the people on the potential dangers of global warming at the International Sand Championship. The top of the sculpture depicted the melting of glaciers in the Himalayas and in the flowing water Lord Ganesh is traveling on a boat with a sign 'Divine Concern on Global Warming'. This was to educate people through his art about the effects Global Warming.
Sudarsan Patnaik’s ultimate objective is to create awareness and enthusiasm among the people and make it popular professional art form among the people for which he is traveling various places in the country and demonstrating this art form by holding work shops and training. He established "The Golden Sand Art Institute” which is first of its nature in India.
Pattnaik has so far participated in more than 50 international sand sculpture championships across the world and won many awards for the country. In June 2012, he has won first prize in International Sand Sculpture Championship[3]
His sand sculpture on Black Taj Mahal earned him accolades all over the world.
